House of Hazards control guide
House of Hazards controls for 1 and 2 players
Player 1 uses A, D, W, and S. Player 2 uses J, L, I, and K. The same action key can crouch, grab, or trigger a hazard depending on the current role.

Direct answer
What are the House of Hazards controls?
Player 1 moves with A and D, jumps with W, and uses S to crouch, grab, or activate the selected hazard. Player 2 moves with J and L, jumps with I, and uses K for the matching crouch, grab, or hazard action. Two keyboard players should keep separate hands on the left and right sides of the keyboard.
House of Hazards keyboard controls
| Input | Action | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Player 1: A / D | Move left or right; change the selected hazard | Used on the left side of the keyboard |
| Player 1: W | Jump | Tap near moving hazards instead of holding it |
| Player 1: S | Crouch, grab a player, or activate a hazard | Check the current role before pressing |
| Player 2: J / L | Move left or right; change the selected hazard | Used on the right side of the keyboard |
| Player 2: I | Jump | The second-player equivalent of W |
| Player 2: K | Crouch, grab a player, or activate a hazard | The second-player equivalent of S |
How to start a 2 player match
- 1
Load the local game
Open House of Hazards and wait for the Unity title screen before pressing any movement keys.
- 2
Choose a multiplayer mode
Use the on-screen menu to begin a shared match. This is local multiplayer on one browser and keyboard, not an internet lobby.
- 3
Put Player 1 on the left
Player 1 should use A, D, W, and S with the left hand so the second control group remains clear.
- 4
Put Player 2 on the right
Player 2 should use J, L, I, and K. Test one jump and one action before the round becomes busy.
- 5
Read the role change
When the game switches a player from running chores to controlling hazards, use the same movement pair to select a trap and the action key to fire it.
How the controls change by role
| Current role | Movement keys | Action key | What to focus on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Runner | Move through the room | Crouch or interact when available | Complete the visible chore without entering an active trap |
| Hazard controller | Cycle between available hazards | Activate the selected trap | Wait until the runner commits to a route |
| Grab opportunity | Close the distance | Grab when the game permits it | Use the prompt rather than pressing at random |
Why holding a direction causes most early failures
House of Hazards rewards stopping as much as moving. A cupboard, lamp, tap, toaster, or other room hazard can cover a fixed path for a short period. If you keep holding a movement key, you give the other player an easy activation window and often run into the hazard after it has already become visible.
Use short inputs near a dangerous object. Watch one activation, let it finish, then cross. When you control the trap, reverse that logic: do not fire as soon as the runner appears. Wait until a jump, doorway, or chore animation makes changing direction difficult.
Fix the controls before restarting
- Click inside the game frame if the keyboard does not respond
- Confirm that Player 1 is using A/D/W/S and Player 2 is using J/L/I/K
- Use a desktop keyboard for the most reliable two-player session
- Check whether the current player is running or selecting hazards
- Release held keys before switching browser tabs or entering fullscreen
House of Hazards control questions
Can two people play House of Hazards on one keyboard?
Yes. Player 1 uses the A/D/W/S group and Player 2 uses J/L/I/K, keeping the two control sets apart on a shared keyboard.
Is House of Hazards online multiplayer?
The checked Eovant build supports local multiplayer in one browser. It should not be confused with a remote online lobby where players join from separate devices.
Why does S or K activate a trap instead of crouching?
The action changes with the current role. For a runner it can crouch or interact; for a hazard controller it activates the selected trap.
Can I use these controls on mobile?
Mobile behavior depends on the build and device. A physical desktop keyboard is the reliable choice for a two-player match.
Test both control sets
Open the local build, test one jump and one action for each player, then start the shared-keyboard round.
